There is more to cars than black book value, although many car buyers put a lot of stock in it. The auto black book value can be way off depending on what modifications you made, what climate you live in and how well you care for your car. Your car can be worth twice the black book value or worth half of what is should be.
This book is a good estimate and that is all it is. Some people see this book as the holy Bible and they think they have found a deal if they find a car that is $300 under the auto Black book value. And they car they find that happens to be a few hundred over it, they won’t take a second look at. And then again, a newer car can be so worn down that the Black book value is just not a good judge of worth at all. Just because it is nicer looking on the outside, on the inside, it is worn out.
Although this book is a good starting place for auto shopping, understand that is is not the whole story. The real facts about the car you are considering can only be told by the qualified mechanic who is competent and with be truthful with you. This can only be determined by a thorough inspection inside and out and this is not done by the common person.
